Most doctors recommend drinking 8 glasses of water a day to stay hydrated, but many people struggle to get the required amount of water, so they use different methods to remind themselves to maintain this healthy habit.
Putting a glass of water on the nightstand is a good reminder to take a sip early in the morning, however, keeping water near your bed may not be as useful as you thought, according to what was stated in the American “brightside” website, for the following reasons:
1- Some debris may end up in the water:
Leaving a glass of water until the morning may make it more susceptible to various types of mosquitoes, flies and other insects during the night, and some dust and other insects may leak into the water while you sleep and you may not notice it while drinking the water the first thing in the morning.
2- Water changes its taste:
If you fill the glass with tap water, it probably contains chlorine added for disinfection, but the chlorine will begin to evaporate during the night hours, change the taste of the water, and make the water taste meaningless.
3- Your water turns into a breeding ground for germs:
When you take a sip of water, you transfer millions of bacteria from your mouth to the cup and then to the water, so if you decide to drink some water from that cup in the evening while you try to sleep, the germs will enter and multiply in the morning.
4- Potential fire risk:
Many people continue to charge devices such as their phones near their beds, so if you put a cup of water on the nightstand and then drop it by hand, the water could spill, causing a potential threat to electronics and the risk of a short circuit.
5- Water becomes slightly more acidic:
When you leave the water in an open cup, it may absorb a small amount of carbon dioxide, which slightly changes the pH balance. As a result, the water may become more acidic with the lower pH level. This will not affect your health, but it may change the taste of the water. It makes drinking it less enjoyable.
6- Keeping a glass of water near your bed disrupts your sleep:
If you have a glass of water in sight, especially if you have difficulty sleeping, you may start drinking water during the night, which increases your desire to go to the bathroom, and doing this several times at night may disrupt your sleep cycle, depriving you of A good night’s sleep leaves you feeling tired and tired in the morning.
