jpnn.com, JAKARTA – Chairman of the Indonesian Hypertension Doctors Association Erwinanto said that uncontrolled hypertension sufferers will be the sole contributor to heart disease, stroke and kidney failure.

“Every 20/10 mm / Hg increase in blood, will increase the risk of coronary heart disease twice as high,” he said at a virtual World Hypertension Day press conference, Thursday (6/5).

According to him, hypertension can be controlled by controlling risky behaviors such as smoking, unhealthy diets, obesity, lack of physical activity, alcohol consumption, and stress.

“The success in controlling blood pressure to reach the target has been proven to reduce the incidence of stroke by 30-40% and incidence of coronary heart disease by 20%,” continued Erwinanto.

On the same occasion, the Director of Prevention and Control of Non-Communicable Diseases Cut Putri Arainie explained the importance of preventing risk factors.

“As soon as there are risk factors, immediately change behavior, because if there is already a non-communicable disease, including hypertension, it can only be controlled throughout the ages, as long as it is also necessary for him to be obedient to taking medication as recommended by the doctor,” said dr. Cut.

To note, Basic Health Research (Riskesdas) revealed that the prevalence of hypertension in Indonesia in 2018 increased compared to the number of hypertension in 2013.

In 2013, the prevalence of hypertension was only 25.8%, while in 2018 it reached 34.1%.
