Be careful, drinking too much coffee can cause bone loss

How much coffee do you drink a day? Coffee does have benefits as a mood and energy generator. But if too much is not good for bone health. In the long term it can cause bone loss or osteoporosis.

Saptawati Bardosono, explained, drinking too much coffee can actually trigger osteoporosis. Because coffee has the side effect of removing a lot of urine.

“If you often urinate, not only will the water come out but also your friends. Minerals are also calcium, “said Prof. Saptawati.

According to Prof. Saptawati, if you drink too much coffee, the urine that comes out will remove calcium. So that not much calcium is absorbed by the blood. Hence the amount of calcium in the blood decreases.

In the scientific journal Korean Journal of Family Medicine, coffee is perhaps the most consumed beverage in the world. Coffee contains many complex chemicals, including carbohydrates, nitrogen compounds, vitamins, minerals, and phenolic compounds.

Recently, several researchers reported that coffee consumption was associated with many health conditions. The results of epidemiological studies show that coffee consumption can help prevent several chronic diseases, including type 2 diabetes mellitus, Parkinson’s disease, and cirrhosis of the liver.

However, several studies have shown that coffee consumption is significantly associated with an increased risk of osteoporosis and bone fractures. Until recently, it is known that coffee consumption can increase the excretion of calcium through urine which can cause osteoporosis. Especially in people with inadequate calcium intake such as the elderly.

In an epidemiological study published in Sweden it suggested that high coffee consumption is associated with a decrease in bone density. Therefore, to reduce the risk of osteoporosis, adequate intake of calcium and vitamin D, and consume a maximum of 3 cups of coffee. Especially in older adults.
