As we at ProiezionidiBorsa have reported several times, in the last year the amount of scams circulating on the web has increased.
Especially during this pandemic, many impostors have put into practice tricks to circumvent unwitting users, leveraging on the anxiety and fear of the virus.
The new frontier of the scam, however, is the Green Pass, that is the digital certification issued by Ministry of Health. This certification attests: the successful vaccination, negativity to the molecular or rapid antigen test in the previous 48 hours and recovery from the virus in the last 6 months.
But you have to be very careful because this scam is running on WhatsApp that drains the current account and concerns this certification.
A suspicious message
In recent days, the Postal Police has dealt with hundreds of reports of users who have received a truly suspicious message on WhatsApp.
The message mentions: “At this link you can download the green certificate Green pass Covid-19 which allows you to move freely throughout Italy without a mask”.
The content of this warning is similar to many other phishing attempts, which attempt to steal sensitive data. Like when we marked that “All PostePay owners must beware of this dangerous SMS scam that empties the account in seconds”.
Be careful because this scam is running on WhatsApp that drains the current account
So the modus operandi is always the same. You send a message by leveraging an emergency, or a need, trying to attract the click to an external link.
The latter often leads to a site similar to the institutional one that invites the user to release sensitive data and bank codes.
Many uninformed users fall into this trap and very few manage to get out of it unscathed.
The advice is always to be cautious and to notify the Postal Police in any case.
Let us remember that this type of notification comes only via SMS and from an authoritative source such as the Ministry of Health.
Here is the authentic message: “Green Covid-19 certification of **** available. Use AUTHCODE *********** and Health Card on www.dgc.gov.it or App Immuni or wait for notification on App IO “.
Other messages other than this are therefore to be considered potentially fraudulent.
