The International Cricket Council (ICC) has revised the rating of the pitch at the Holkar Stadium in Indore, where the third Test between India and Australia was played. The BCCI had filed an appeal after ICC match referee Chris Broad gave a poor rating in his report.
The third Test started on March 1, but Australia had won by nine wickets in the morning session on the third day. “The rating of the pitch used for the third Test of the ICC World Test Championship series between India and Australia at the Holkar Cricket Stadium in Indore has been changed from ‘poor’ to ‘below average’ from March 1-3 following an appeal by the Board of Control for Cricket in India, as per the ICC outfield monitoring process,” the ICC said in a statement on Monday. .
An ICC panel comprising ICC General Manager Wasim Khan and Cricket Committee member Roger Harper reviewed the footage of the Test before reaching a decision. The panel concluded that the match referee guidelines had been met in accordance with Appendix A of the pitch monitoring process, and it was deemed that there was not sufficiently excessively variable bounce to warrant a “poor” rating.
As a result, the venue received a demerit point.
