MUMBAI: BCCI is ready to consider doubling the salary of domestic cricketers. National media said that it is the duty of the National Election Committee led by Ajith Agarkar to implement the matter.

The idea is part of BCCI’s move to consider non-IPL players as well. Currently BCCI pays Rs 60,000 per day to a player who has played more than 40 Ranji matches. Players who have played between 21 and 40 matches are now getting Rs 50,000 each and players who have played up to 20 matches are getting Rs 40,000 each. According to these figures, a senior player can earn up to Rs 25 lakh if the team reaches the finals. Other players in the team can earn Rs 17 to 22 lakhs. Meanwhile, BCCI is considering increasing a player’s salary from Rs 75 lakh to Rs 1 crore if he plays 10 Ranji Trophy matches.

Players can now earn more by playing in domestic white ball tournaments like Vijay Hazare and Mushtaq Ali. BCCI has not officially confirmed this yet, but reports suggest that changes may be seen from next season.

The decision is to encourage domestic players to participate in the Ranji Trophy and increase the income of domestic players who do not participate in the IPL. Many players who played in the national team used to skip domestic matches when there were no matches with the national team. The BCCI had also issued a warning to players including Ishan Kishan.
