Mumbai: The BCCI has made a crucial change to ban foreign players who participate in the IPL star auction and withdraw without apparent reason after joining any team from participating in the auction for the next two seasons. This is stated in the new auction conditions that were released yesterday ahead of the Mega Star IPL auction.
Foreign players who, after registering their name for the auction and withdrawing from any team in the auction without sufficient reasons, will be banned from participating in the auction for the next two years. They cannot register their name for the auction. In a meeting called by the BCCI in August, the team owners had asked the BCCI to prevent the withdrawal of foreign players after joining the team at the auction.
This has now been approved by BCCI. Many players will sign up for the auction and join any of the teams participating in the auction. But the team owners pointed out that some of them are withdrawing for various reasons just before the start of the competition changing the balance and mix of the teams completely and they have to find other people at the last minute.
England test team captain Ben Stokes, pacer Jofra Archer and Jason Roy withdrew after joining different teams in the last IPL auction.
Apart from this, it has been clarified that foreign players who want to participate in the auction must register their name and if they fail to do so, they will be banned from the next season’s auction before the mega star auction, BCCI also made it imperative yesterday that each team will be able to keep five players and get one player through a proper match.
