BBQ Chicken accused of using ‘chilled meat’ option to increase prices

When BBQ, a domestic franchise chicken company, recently added an option called ‘chilled meat’ to some menus and received an additional fee of 3,000 won, it is pointed out that it is actually a ‘trick’ to increase the price.

Recently, an article titled ‘BBQ Chicken Current Status’ was posted on several online communities.

Writer A said, “Now I have to pay extra to eat refrigerated meat.”

The menu in question is ‘Golden Olive Chicken Hot Wing’. Looking at the menu introduction on the BBQ homepage, the price of ‘Golden Olive Chicken Hot Wing’ is 20,000 won and ‘Golden Olive Chicken Hot Wing (refrigerated)’ is 23,000 won, respectively.

Even on the delivery app screen, it was supposed to select ‘frozen’ and ‘change refrigeration’. In the category of ‘Hot wing meat selection (required selection)’, freezing is ‘no additional cost’, but an additional 3,000 won is added when changing refrigeration.

However, these options vary from store to store. Some stores offer refrigerated and frozen options, while others only sell frozen.

As posts like this spread, netizens said, “I thought it was refrigerated meat until now. After knowing it, I feel bad for nothing”, “I feel bad even if I eat it refrigerated, and I feel bad even if I eat it frozen”, “There are really various ways to raise prices”, etc. are pointed out.

Regarding this, the company explained that the difference in options for each store is the choice of the store owner.

A BBQ official said, “Existing hot wing products have only used frozen meat, but consumers requested that they use refrigerated meat, so we added that option.” You get paid,” he explained.

He said, “Although we have issued recommendations to all stores, we cannot force them. (What makes each store different) is the store owner’s choice.”

An official added, “We did not add a new surcharge to chilled meat to raise the price, but we tried to make it transparent to consumers by posting an additional surcharge from 15 years ago as an official option on the menu.”

Meanwhile, Kyochon Chicken also raised the price of its products by up to 3,000 won from the 3rd. One marinated portion meat menu is 3,000 won, and other menus have been raised from 500 won to 2,500 won depending on the size and existing price range. In the case of ‘Kyochon Original’, the price per dog rose from 16,000 won to 19,000 won, and the honey combo rose from 20,000 won to 23,000 won. However, some new products, such as Black Secret, were frozen without price adjustment.
