Since last Saturday evening, the opponent of Bundesliga basketball team BG Göttingen has been determined in the round of 16 of the BBL Cup.

Göttingen/Hannover – The violets have to play at SC Rasta Vechta on October 14th or 15th. The newly promoted and first division returnees won the qualifying round, in which the BG, as sixth in the previous season (like the first eight teams), did not have to take part, with 84:

76 against BBL rivals Rostock Seawolves.

Former Ludwigsburg player Tommy Kuhse scored best for Vechta with 26 points. Spencer Reaves (15) and newcomer Wes Iwundu (14) also scored in double figures. The most successful Rostockers were Derrick Alston (14), Tyler Nelson and Mike Smith (13 each).

In the first round, in which six second division teams took part for the first time in 14 years, former first division team Gießen caused a surprise: The Hessians beat first division team Merlins Crailsheim (Göttingen’s first league opponent on October 7th) with 79:73. Braunschweig (78:64 at newly promoted Tübingen) showed no weakness under the eyes of world champion Dennis Schröder.

According to Veilchen Ladies managing director Richard Crowder, the Bundesliga basketball players from BG 74 Göttingen received a “clear blow against a fully professional team” from TK Hannover Luchse. In the end, coach Ruzica Dzankic’s team had “no chance” at 45:79 (26:43), said Crowder. “We had problems getting the TKH big players like Polleros and Rollersen under control. “So there were a lot of learning effects and a small warning shot before the start of the Bundesliga next Saturday against Marburg,” said Crowder, whose daughter Jenny is expected to start training again this week. With Viki Karambatsa, however, it will take a while before she gets to her goal Achilles tendon problems come back.
