Princess Diana’s former private secretary, Patrick Jephson, has been awarded compensation from the BBC over the making of the famous television interview she had for the program Panorama in 1995. The British broadcaster pays ‘a significant amount’ and has also apologized.

An independent investigation last year revealed that the BBC had concealed that the conversation with Diana had been arranged by providing false information. The BBC acknowledges that the situation has caused ‘serious damage’ to Jephson and has therefore reached a settlement with him. He will donate a portion to charity.

The controversial interview was again in the news last year. Diana’s brother Charles Spencer claimed that journalist Martin Bashir lied at the time to gain her trust to put her in front of the cameras of Panorama to get. In the conversation, Diana talked in detail about her troubled marriage with Prince Charles, Queen Elizabeth’s son and heir apparent. The police themselves also investigated the course of events, but did not see any criminal offences.
