The terrorist group Hamas has put forward additional conditions under which it would agree to suspend hostilities and release some hostages captured in Israel. This was reported by the BBC, citing a source in the Israeli government.
It is unknown what exact demands the group put forward.
A deal involving a four-day ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and the release of 50 Israeli hostages in exchange for 150 Palestinian prisoners was announced on November 21. It was assumed that the agreement would come into force on the morning of November 23, but the day before it was announced that the ceasefire would be postponed by at least a day.
CNN reported, citing Israeli officials, that the parties to the conflict need to finalize “minor details” of the deal.
At least 1,200 people were killed in the Hamas attack on Israel on October 7. The militants took about 240 more Israelis and foreigners hostage. Among them were women and children, some of whom Hamas must return as part of the ceasefire deal.
In turn, the Israeli authorities published a list of candidates for release from Israeli prisons. It listed 300 people, mostly men (287 people). Almost half of them are under 18 years old. Among the crimes for which they were convicted, the BBC called attempted murder, throwing a bomb, making explosives or incendiary substances, throwing stones, association with an enemy organization, causing grievous bodily harm and arson on nationalistic grounds.
