BBB calls on PVV, VVD and NSC to sit down together to discuss concerns about cooperation with Geert Wilders. The conversation should include, among other things, the rule of law of PVV intentions and the doubts that parties have about this.
“Whether you can reach an agreement in a conversation is another matter, but I find it bizarre that people don’t even talk to each other,” BBB leader Van der Plas said today after her conversation with scout Plasterk. If the four parties sit down together, it is a signal that they take the citizens seriously, she believes.
According to Van der Plas, parties should stop addressing each other via social media: “If you can talk to each other on Twitter, you can also talk at the table,” said the BBB leader. On Twitter, now called X, PVV leader Wilders accused NSC leader Omtzigt this morning of “political games”. It was the second time in a short time that Wilders lashed out at Omtzigt.
Power thinking
The PVV leader wants to form a cabinet with NSC, VVD and BBB, but NSC leader Omtzigt told the scout yesterday that he does not want to negotiate the formation of a coalition. The PVV leader then accused Omtzigt of “old administrative culture” and “power thinking”.
After his conversation with Plasterk yesterday, Omtzigt stated that he sees obstacles to cooperation with the PVV, partly because that party’s program points are against the Constitution. “There are obstacles in the area of the rule of law, among other things.”
About the NSC’s constitutional objections, Van der Plas said today that Wilders should be given the opportunity to make it clear in a conversation with other parties exactly which plans he is distancing himself from. The BBB leader mentioned the possibility that parties could draw up a kind of ‘core document’ that states, for example, that people are not excluded.
D66, CDA en SP
A number of other parties also came to talk to scout Plasterk today. But none of them play a major role in the formation at the moment.
The largest of the rest today was D66 leader Jetten. He believes that, given the election results, talks should start between PVV, VVD, BBB and NSC. After his meeting with the scout Plasterk, Jetten spoke of a combination of “the conservative right and the extreme right who have a clear majority in the Chamber”.
CDA leader Bontenbal has a slightly different view. He believes that it is the turn of the four largest parties to hold exploratory discussions and this includes GroenLinks-PvdA. Bontenbal argued for a “stable majority cabinet” and sees a role for his CDA in the opposition.
SP leader Marijnissen also believes that the four largest parties should take the lead in the formation. After her conversation with scout Plasterk, she said that the formation “doesn’t look good yet” and that progress must be made quickly.
