KIEVVideo footage shared by the Navy Ukraine shows a Bayraktar TB2 unmanned combat aerial vehicle (UCAV) destroying a Russian KS-701 patrol boat in the Black Sea. This is a sign that the powerful Turkish-made drone is back in service.

In the terrifying video, shared on Telegram on September 3, 2023, black and white footage shows the drone moving above the boat before it is hit by a powerful explosion.

The title of the video reads: “In the northwestern part of the Black Sea, during an attempt to land enemy personnel, naval aviation of the Ukrainian Navy destroyed an enemy ship of the type KS-701 Tunets. The enemy suffered losses in the amount of 6 people killed and two attackers were wounded.”

Another video that went viral on social media on the same day showing the destruction of a Russian military Ural truck in the Kherson region, also appeared to show the TB2 Bayraktar in action.

Why TB2 returned to such devastating action could be a testament to the months Ukraine spent weakening Russia’s air defense system, hitting Putin’s forces far behind the front lines with HIMARS, missiles and drone strikes.

“That the TB-2 is again firing missiles at Russian forces is a strong indicator that Russia’s air defenses in the south are in trouble,” David Ax toldForbes.

Indeed, the revival of the TB2 Bayraktar attack comes a week after a prized state-of-the-art S-400 Triumf was spectacularly destroyed in Crimea.

Highly praised by Moscow, the rugged S-400 – the successor to the older S-200 and S-300 – can attack cruise and ballistic missiles, as well as airplanes and drones, and is considered the equivalent of Russia’s American Patriot system.
