Captain James Cutfield, commander of the superyacht Bayesian, which sank off the coast of Porticello, in the Palermo area, on Monday 19 August, left Sicily on a private jet headed to Spain, where he lives with his wife. Although he was registered as a suspect, he was not required to remain in Italy.
Meanwhile, investigations continue. After Commander James Cutfield, the Termini Imerese Prosecutor’s Office has issued notices of investigation against the engineer officer Tim Parker Eaton and the sailor Matthew Griffiths. The hypotheses of crime for all are shipwreck and multiple manslaughter. There are many questions that must be answered at the moment, from the possible opening of the doors to the late launch of the signal flare to the decision to leave the Bayesian at anchor despite the adverse weather. Another knot to be untied concerns the recovery times of the wreck, which do not appear to be short for a series of organizational and bureaucratic reasons.
The greatest concern comes from the tank, which despite having remained intact after the shipwreck contains approximately 18 thousand liters of fuel: any spill would represent a disaster for the Porticello sea, therefore before the actual recovery it will be necessary to proceed with securing the tank. – photo Agenzia Fotogramma, the captain of the Bayesian James Cutfield leaves the conference center of the Domina Zagarella with his lawyers Giovanni Rizzuti and Aldo Mordiglia and a woman
