Bayern win in Freiburg – BVB loses against Leipzig – top issues

After the victory in Freiburg, FC Bayern does not have far to go to the next championship. But a curious change error lets the success fade into the background. Dortmund stumbles against RB.

Berlin (dpa) – FC Bayern is still on course for the tenth German soccer championship in a row. However, after the 4-1 (0-0) win at SC Freiburg, Munich must fear an aftermath. Because the sovereign Bundesliga leaders were on the field for a few seconds with twelve professionals.

Bayern have little to fear from the competition at the moment, pursuers Borussia Dortmund deservedly lost 4-1 (0-2) to RB Leipzig in the evening in the Signal Iduna Park, which was sold out for the first time in two years with over 81,000 spectators. The gap to Munich is now nine points for BVB.

At the bottom of the table, the situation for Hertha BSC is becoming more and more dramatic. For Felix Magath, the comeback to the Bundesliga coaching bench was disappointing in the 1: 2 (1: 2) at Bayer Leverkusen. Hertha slipped back to penultimate place because Arminia Bielefeld and VfB Stuttgart shared the points 1-1 (0-1).

Goretzka scores in comeback

The ambitious TSG 1899 Hoffenheim conceded an unexpected 1: 2 (0: 1) home defeat against VfL Bochum. Eintracht Frankfurt did not get past a zero number against SpVgg Greuther Fürth at the bottom.

Four months after his last appearance, Leon Goretzka gave Bayern the lead with a header from a Joshua Kimmich free-kick (58′). Just five minutes later, however, the hosts’ fans raged when super joker Nils Petersen scored the 1-1 17 seconds after being substituted on. The Munich team, however, were undeterred, Serge Gnabry (73′), Kingsley Coman (82′) and Marcel Sabitzer (90’+6′) decided the game. However, the change error around Comain in the final phase caused a lot of discussion.

Leipzig as a Dortmund mood killer

RB Leipzig made the mood killer in the top game at the long-awaited BVB party. Konrad Laimer gave Leipzig a 2-0 lead before the break with a brace in the 21st and 30th minutes. Christopher Nkunku (57th) and Dani Olmo (86th) increased the result further. Only Donyell Malen (84th) scored for Dortmund. The Leipzig team thus consolidated fourth place and can hope to qualify for the Champions League again.

At Hertha, coach Magath had hoped for the effect of a training camp in Harsewinkel in East Westphalia. But it was the Leverkusen side who were allowed to celebrate first. Lucas Alario gave the Werkself the lead in the 35th minute, and Karim Bellarabi promptly made it 2-0 (40′). Before the break, the Berliners fought back thanks to Vladimir Darida (42nd). But the guests couldn’t do more. For Magath, who was on the sidelines at Hertha for the first time after his corona infection, his rescue mission will be a tough job.

Stuttgart scores again, damper for TSG

On the other hand, the Stuttgart were able to score again in the relegation battle. Sasa Kalajdzic rewarded the Swabians in Bielefeld with his penalty goal in the 25th minute for a convincing performance up to that point. But VfB didn’t take advantage of the many other chances they had. So the Bielefeld came through Florian Krüger’s equalizer (59th) to win the point.

Hoffenheim had to accept a damper on their Champions League hopes. Bochum’s Takuma Asano used assists from VfL goalkeeper Manuel Riemann twice to counter goals (28’/59′). David Raum’s interim equalizer (54th) was not enough for the hosts.

The afternoon was also sobering for Frankfurt. Despite overwhelming superiority, the Hessians were unable to win against Fürth. Eintracht’s dress rehearsal for the Europa League hit against FC Barcelona failed.
