Bayern Munich phenom Jamal Musiala is with Germany for his first senior-team call-up and the 18-year-old is soaking the experience.
Musiala, of course, played most of his youth national team with England, so the Germany camp presents a new environment for the youngster.
“It’s something completely new to me. I was with the ‘Three Lions’ from a young age, I was able to collect many experiences and wonderful memories there,” said Musiala in an interview with the DFB. “I had a really good time there. But now I’m looking forward to my time on the DFB team. After careful consideration, I made my decision in favor of Germany very consciously. Now I just look ahead, want to give everything and have fun.”

When asked how his family reacted to his decision to represent Germany, Musiala indicated that he had everyone’s full support.
“Everyone fully accepted my decision. They wouldn’t have talked me into that either, because they knew that I had to answer this question for myself,” Musiala said.
As for what swung his decision, Musiala indicated that the personal investment that Joachim Löw and Oliver Bierhoff made in getting to know him as a person was a big differentiator.
“They already knew a lot about me when we first met. They went to great lengths to find out who I am. That increased my confidence,” Musiala said. “It means a lot to me in general that I am not only seen as a player, but also as a person with values.”
Musiala is also thankful that he gets to share this experience with Bayer Leverkusen phenom Florian Wirtz. Having another young player in the camp has made the transition much more smooth.
“It’s really cool that Florian is there too. I’m happy that I’m not the only young player here. Then we split the pressure a bit,” Musiala said. “It’s been a good experience for both of us. We have a lot to talk about because we’re both new and we have to take care of each other.”
