Leipzig FC Bayern Munich demonstrated strength when its coach Julian Nagelsmann returned to the old place of work. The record champions won 4-1 on Saturday evening in front of 34,000 spectators at RB Leipzig and moved up to second place in the table.
Whistling concerts, dream goals, three points: coach Julian Nagelsmann enjoyed the complete package of Bundesliga soccer on his return to Leipzig and won confidently with FC Bayern Munich. Due to the 4: 1 (1: 0) at the old place of work at RB Leipzig, Nagelsmann’s Bayern climbed to second place in the table on Saturday evening. In front of 34,000 spectators, Robert Lewandowski (12th minute / hand penalty), substitute Jamal Musiala (47th), Leroy Sané (54th) and Joker Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting (90th + 2) ensured the third league victory in a row.

“Basically it was good. But of course we can do better, play better, ”said Nagelsmann. “It feels great to us. After the international break, you never really know what you’re going to get, ”said Bayern’s Thomas Müller, who was happy about a successful dress rehearsal for the Champions League opener at FC Barcelona on Tuesday.

Konrad Laimer’s great long-range shot (58th) gave the partially overwhelmed Leipziger hope only briefly. “Four goals hurt, it was maybe a little too little today. We have to learn from that, ”said Laimer.

Nagelsmann’s working day in the old homestead had started uncomfortably as expected. When the ex-trainer went to the TV interview in the immediate vicinity of the Leipzig fan block at 6 p.m., he was greeted with a whistling concert. “That didn’t come as a surprise, it’s a bit normal in football, emotions are part of it,” said the 34-year-old, who moved to Bayern after two years in Saxony in the summer. The RB fans are angry because Nagelsmann, contrary to his announcement, took captain Marcel Sabitzer and various assistants to Munich.

By the time the whistle kicked off, the whistling was over, tactically both teams lay on top of each other like a template. Leipzig coach Jesse Marsch refrained from surprising Nagelsmann with two strikers and, like his predecessor, relied on a 4-2-3-1 formation. Leipzig initially set the tone, but the runner-up who started the season with just one win from three games was quickly taken away.

Kevin Kampl went in a duel with Leon Goretzka in the penalty area with his arm to the ball. Referee Deniz Aytekin initially did not notice the situation, but after video evidence, rightly decided on a penalty. Lewandowski surely transformed him – and met across the board in the 14th Bundesliga game in a row. Gerd Müller set the record of 16 games in the 1969/70 season.

Leipzig was impressed by the deficit, and there was no immediate reaction from Marsch. Since Bayern were satisfied with the result, the top game mutated into a normal Bundesliga kick. Shortly before the break, national player Gnabry (43.) had to make way for Musiala injured.

And shortly after the move, Leipzig finally took the courage away. After a wonderful combination over Goretzka and Alphonso Davies over the left side, the young international pulled flat and untenable in the far corner. Lewandowski (49th) missed the next big chance, but after another combination initiated by Musiala, Sané was there with the third goal.

Then it was time again for some Leipzig emotions. Laimer’s shot from a good 20 meters was too much even for Manuel Neuer and raised low hopes of catching up. When Nagelsmann replaced Sabitzer in the 59th minute, the Leipzig fans tried the next loud whistle concert. That didn’t impress Bayern, the substitute Choupo-Moting even ensured Bayern’s highest victory in Leipzig in stoppage time.
