Bayern Munich thrashes Werder Bremen 5-0 in Bundesliga

Berlin. Bayern Munich sealed a third win in seven days on Saturday by winning 5-0 at Werder Bremen in the fourth round of the German Bundesliga.

With 20 goals scored in their last three games, the Bavarian giants are not slowing down, nor running out of gunpowder, nor taking pity on their rivals, after having won last weekend in Kiel (6-1) and on Wednesday in Champions to Dinamo Zagreb (9-2).

Led by an excellent Michael Olise, Vincent Kompany’s men thus chained together a fourth consecutive victory in the German championship, against the eighth-placed team, which, for its part, suffered its first defeat.

Olise, a 22-year-old French international who arrived in the summer from Crystal Palace, scored a double (24, 61), and also provided an assist for Jamal Musiala (32) and another for English striker Harry Kane.

Kane, who had just scored four goals in Championsalso wanted to leave his mark (57) with his fifth goal in the league, reinforcing his position as the championship’s top scorer.

Serge Gnabry (65th) added to the home team’s ordeal.

Kompany did not hesitate to praise Olise, who won the Olympic silver medal with France at the Paris Games: “He has a special talent. It is a luxury to have so many good players. Michael did very well, his start at Bayern could not have been much better.”

Bayern are now top of the table with 12 points, while Borussia Dortmund (4th) could move into second place with two points if they win on Sunday in Stuttgart.

Union on the rise, Heindenheim on the decline

But second place is currently occupied by Freiburg (9 points), after winning 3-0 away against Heindenheim (7th), a newly promoted team that was top in the third matchday, but is slowly discovering the level of the Bundesliga.

With this dynamic, Bayern will host reigning champion Bayer Leverkusen next Saturday.

Union Berlin also made a jump after beating Hoffenheim (15th) 2-1 in the German capital with goals from Tom Rothe and South Korean Jeong Woo-yeong. The Berliners remain unbeaten and are currently in third place.

In the lower half, Bochum (16th) and Kiel (17th) drew 2-2, a result that allowed both teams to open their points account.

Eitracht Frankfurt and Borussia Mönchengladbach round off Saturday’s fixtures.

The other German teams in the Champions League (Dortmund, Stuttgart, Leipzig, and Leverkusen) will play their fourth round matches on Sunday.
