Bayern Munich bring in a second player in January 2023. Experienced goalkeeper, Yann Sommer, officially dressed as Bayern after being signed from Borussia Moenchengladbach.
Die Roten are indeed looking for a goalkeeper after Manuel Neuer must be absent until the end of this season due to a broken leg following a skiing accident, last December. The incident made Bayern’s goalkeeper stocks run low.
Bayern only have Sven Ulreich in the first team, while Alexander Nubel’s loan to AS Monaco is not accompanied by a call-up clause in the winter.
In the process, Bayern Munich recruited Yann Sommer with a transfer fee of around 8 million euros (Rp. 13 billion). The 34-year-old Swiss goalkeeper has arrived in Munich since Wednesday (18/1), and has completed a medical before signing a two-and-a-half year contract.
Initially, Gladbach insisted on keeping Sommer but the player was determined to leave to end his career of more than eight years at Borussia Park. Sommer became the second player Bayern in the winter after signing Daley Blind for free.
‘”I’m really looking forward to my new role at Bayern. This is a big club with strength, we have faced each other many times. I know how much quality and charisma this club has,” Sommer was quoted as saying Stats Perform.
“I’m proud to be part of Bayern now. We have a lot of work ahead. I’m really looking forward to starting with my new team-mates and everything that’s to come.”
“I would like to thank Borussia Moenchengladbach for a great eight-and-a-half years and for making this move possible.”
Yann Sommer joined Gladbach in 2014 and has made 272 appearances in the Bundesliga. Of the goalkeepers to have played 10 or more games in that period, Sommer has a save percentage of 71.1, the seventh best and only shy of Neuer (72.5%). Sommer has also kept 70 clean sheets.
