Bayern Munich Honors the Late Franz Beckenbauer with Emotional Tribute and Record-Breaking Win

Beckenbauer died on Sunday at the age of 78. The former defender won a full set of World Cup medals during his career and added gold and silver as a coach. As a player, he won the Bundesliga four times and the Champions Cup three times with Bayern.

Bayern’s players paid tribute to the late star before the game by warming up in T-shirts emblazoned with the words “Thank you Franz” and the number five that Beckenbauer wore. The jerseys will then be signed and auctioned for the benefit of the famous defender’s charity foundation. Later, the players also had the inscription “Thanks, Franz” on their match jerseys.

The teams then took to the pitch to the tune of “Gute Freunde kann niemand trennen” (Good friends can’t be separated), sung by Beckenbauer in 1966. In addition, there was a giant photo of Beckenbauer in the center circle.

Bayern started in special jerseys.

The match was then preceded by a minute’s silence, which will also be observed during the remaining weekend matches of the round. The referees and players of Bayern and Hoffenheim, for which defender Pavel Kadeřábek played the entire match, started with black belts.

Another farewell to Beckenbauer is planned for next Friday at the Allianz Arena from 15:00.

Musiala made his first breakthrough in the 18th minute. Thus, Bayern scored in the 65th home game in a row and set a new Bundesliga record. The last time the Munich team came up empty-handed at their stadium in the top flight was in February 2020 during a goalless draw with Leipzig.

After the break, Bayern survived several Hoffenheim chances, including Maximilian Beier’s cross, and in the 70th minute, Musial made it clear. The guests then lost Grischa Promelo, who was sent off, and Harry Kane gave the final form of the result in the set-up, and with the 22nd goal he consolidated his lead in the scorers’ order. After every Bayern goal, the song “Gute Freunde kann niemand trennen” played in the stadium.

Thanks to the win, Bayern reduced the gap to leaders Leverkusen in second place to a single point. Goalkeeper Manuel Neuer scored a clean sheet in the jubilee 500th competitive match for the Bavarian team and moved to tenth place in the number of starts in the club standings.
