Bayern Munich Fans Protest Club Jersey Choice and UEFA Reforms in Champions League Match

Although the German team won the Bayern Munich-Galatasaray match played in the Champions League on Wednesday evening with a score of 2-1, the fans of the home team reacted to the club because of the jersey the team wore.

Bayern Munich secured its place in the last 16 of the Champions League with its victory against our representative Galatasaray. However, Bayern fans took to the field wearing their second jersey, even though they were the home team and had priority in the jersey option for the match.

The German giant wore a jersey with black and purple colors instead of the traditional red and white jersey. As a result, a banner criticizing the decision was unfurled in the south stand of the Allianz Arena: “Club colors are inviolable.”

REACTION HAS ALSO BEEN SHOWED IN THE PAST

This reaction of Bayern fans is not the first. In 2018, fans who did not want the club to wear jerseys with other colors showed their opposition with the banners they opened.

Referring to the first paragraph in the statutes of the Bayern Munich club, fans state in the 1st paragraph of the statute that the club colors are red and white. For this reason, the campaign launched by Bayern Munich fans and supporter groups is called ‘Paragraph 1’. However, there are no specifications for jersey design and colors.

PROTESTED IN UEFA

Fans also held banners protesting UEFA’s next season’s Champions League format:

“95% of us fans love football, 5% are idiots who exploit football. Stop the UEFA Champions League reforms and the plutocracy of the European Club Association. “To hell with UEFA.”
