Bayern Munich is in full search for a new technical director to take the reins of the team for the 2024-2025 season, after officially confirming that Thomas Tuchel will not continue in the position. Zinedine Zidane emerges as one of the main options to occupy this position, as ‘BILD’ has revealed. The former Real Madrid coach, who has been away from the bench since June 2021, is considered by Jan-Christian Dreesen, president of the Bavarian club, as the ideal candidate to lead the team towards a refoundation.
Zizou, winner of 3 Champions League and 2 Spanish League titles, is recognized for his successful career both in his time as a professional player and in his career as a coach. Bayern Munich’s admiration for his winning profile is notable, and they see in him the person capable of overcoming previous disappointments with coaches like Tuchel and Naggelsmann.
“For him, the only options are the French team, Juventus Turin and Bayern. What is definitive is that he does not want to go to England, for sure,” a person close to Zidane revealed to the German newspaper. “Zinedine sees Bayern like Real Madrid: an institution, a club with a great past and excellent working conditions. Both clubs have many similarities in the way they work,” added the same source.
As the Frenchman does not know how to speak German (nor does he speak English fluently), the idea of adding someone who knows the language to his staff as a technical assistant, was his teammate on the France team and is considered a glory by the fans of the Bavarian team: Franck Ribéry. The runner-up in the world with the French in Germany 2006 is currently one of the technical assistants for Salernitana in Italy and would not frown upon returning to Bayern Munich, where he played 12 seasons and won 24 titles.
However, the aforementioned media highlights that the main option was so far this season) and appear in the quarterfinals of the Europa League (they will face West Ham of England). The Spaniard also appeared on Liverpool’s radar to replace the German Jürgen Klopp.
Another variant that is on the table is that of the Italian Roberto De Zerbi, the brain of Brighton & Hove Albion of the English Premier League.
