Bayern Munich has contacted the management of Ajax captain Steven Bergwijn. Agent Nathan van Kooperen (Muy Manero) confirmed this news to Mike Verweij of De Telegraaf on Wednesday. According to the journalist, however, it seems unlikely that the Dutch international will leave the Johan Cruijff ArenA in the final days of the transfer period. Bergwijn is still with Ajax until mid-2027.

On Tuesday, ESPN reported the news that 26-year-old Bergwijn is an alternative to Kingsley Coman and Serge Gnabry, who are struggling with injuries. Van Kooperen responded to Verweij when asked whether Bayern Munich had actually made contact. “I can’t deny that.”

“Although Van Kooperen does not want to say anything further about the maintenance, it is clear that Bergwijn serves as a backup for the German top club,” said Verweij. Coman was recently seriously injured by the German record champions, who are therefore looking for an extra winger.

Next summer, 22-year-old Bryan Zaragoza will come from Granada to Munich, but his club requires extra compensation for an early transfer. However, Der Rekordmeister does not intend to transfer much more than the agreed 15 million euros to Granada and sees Zaragoza as more of a reinforcement for the future.

As a result, Bergwijn is now on the table as an ‘experienced option’ in the Allianz Arena. However, Verweij does not expect that a transfer is imminent. “Regardless of the question of whether Bergwijn wants to leave Ajax so close to the transfer deadline, it is implausible that the Amsterdam team will agree to the departure of their captain.”

Ajax and Bayern Munich have not yet had any contact about Bergwijn. It was previously announced that the Amsterdam team would like at least the purchase price back if the winger leaves.

Bergwijn came over from Tottenham Hotspur in the summer of 2022 for a record amount of 31.25 million euros. According to Transfermarkt, his market value has now fallen to 20 million euros.
