Bayern Munich captain Manuel Neuer sat down with the club website for an interview and reacted to his squad winning yet another Bundesliga title.
“It’s unbelievable. Before I switched in 2011, I was convinced that I would win many titles at FC Bayern. At the time, I would not have believed that it would be such a successful time. We know we have set an all-time record. Before each season there is therefore also the goal of expanding this further,” Neuer said.

When asked about how he viewed the season considering the club did not win the DFB-Pokal or Champions League, Neuer said it was still a success.
“Of course we always want to achieve the maximum. But we also know that a lot can happen in competitive sport, that every competitor wants to celebrate success,” said Neuer. “This year, in addition to the championship, we won the German and European Supercup and the Club World Cup. I think we played good football overall. In the Champions League, we also had a bit of bad luck in the games against Paris. It’s always a fine line.”
Neuer also spoke about the disappointment the team experienced when being eliminated from the DFB-Pokal and Champions League.
“Other teams also struggled with it. At some point you just have to take one or two defeats. In the cup against Kiel, it was extremely bitter with the goal in stoppage time and the penalty shoot-out,” Neuer said. “In the Champions League, with Paris, we had a great team as opponents, so you can be eliminated. Of course, that’s tough.”
As far as what his own personal highlight was for the season, Neuer said that it was simply being able to compete with this group of players on the roster.
“It can be seen across seasons — that we have become the most successful team in the history of FC Bayern. With all the successes, it’s all the better that I’ve played side-by-side with many of the guys for such a long time and that we shaped such an era,” Neuer said. “So, it is of course a shame that one or the other leaves the club in the summer.”
