Bayern loanee Malik Tillman commented on his “scandal goal” on Sunday in the Scottish Cup round of 16 for his Glasgow Rangers against second division Patrick Thistle.
After a throw-in by the opponent, the 20-year-old had taken the ball from an opponent who actually wanted to play it back to Rangers for reasons of fair play. Tillman ran towards the goal alone, rounded the goalkeeper and scored to make it 2-1. His action caused a great uproar. (NEWS: All current information about the Bundesliga)
He hadn’t noticed that the Rangers had deliberately played the ball wide because the German-American had stayed injured on the pitch.
“It was like I was fouled and treated and didn’t realize that my team-mate Antonio Colak then played the ball wide. When the others then threw in, I thought it would go on as normal. And it didn’t look to me like the defender wanted to hit the ball over to us either,” he explained kicker. “That’s why I took the ball from him and scored the goal.”
Shortly after he scored, he immediately noticed that something had gone wrong. His teammates informed him of the misunderstanding while Tillman faced great uproar. The fact that the Rangers then let the second division team come to the 2-2 equalizer on the instructions of their trainer did not defuse the situation.
“We let them score the goal to make it 2-2 straight away, so that settled it for me. And we still won the game ‘fairly’. I really didn’t want to have anything to do with these players anymore, because when they all came running up to me, they didn’t act in the right way as human beings. So what was said there, ”continued the 20-year-old.
The attacking midfielder moved to Scotland for a year in the summer of 2022 to gain the necessary match practice.
Bayern coach Julian Nagelsmann advised him to take this step: “It was always clear to me that it would be difficult at Bayern. It’s Bayern Munich, they can buy any player. You always toy with the idea that you might go on loan or even leave completely.” (DATA: Bundesliga results)
According to Nagelsmann, he could improve his mentality in particular, citing top performer Joshua Kimmich as an example: “That I should always be one hundred percent on the pitch and attentive. And the balls are challenging because playing with the ball is one of my strengths. And the defense could be a bit better for an offensive player,” Tillman joked.
