Barcelona Eyes German Midfielder as Summer Overhaul Looms
Barcelona is reportedly eyeing a move for Stuttgart midfielder Angelo Stiller in a bid to bolster its midfield options this summer.
The endorsement comes from none other than Lothar Matthäus, a German football legend and former Bayern Munich star. Speaking to the Spanish newspaper Deportes, Matthäus lauded Stiller’s potential fit for the Catalan giants.
"Steeler will be good for Barcelona because of his style of play," Matthäus stated. "I trust him, and if Barcelona were to part with one of their players with good financial results, it would be possible and reasonable to sign Stiller."
Matthäus’s confidence stems from Stiller’s time at Bayern Munich, where the midfielder flourished under the watchful eye of current Barcelona coach Hansi Flick.
"Flick knows the Steeler’s abilities well, and his ability to link defense and attack," Matthäus explained.
Stiller, who is valued at around $30 million by Transfermarkt, is under contract with Stuttgart until 2027.
The move could be facilitated by a potential departure of Frenkie de Jong from Barcelona. With the Dutch midfielder’s future uncertain, Stiller emerges as a viable replacement, according to Matthäus.
"He can make his mark on Barcelona and organize the midfield there. He is a good alternative if Barcelona decide to sell in the summer in the midfield," Matthäus emphasized.
Interestingly, this isn’t the first time Stiller’s name has been linked to a move to Camp Nou. Last summer, reports surfaced indicating Barcelona’s interest in the promising midfielder.
