Frimpong developed in the lower ranks of Manchester City but had trouble getting into the first team, prompting a move to Celtic in 2019.
He made 36 league appearances for the Scottish team during his two seasons with the club.
“Great opportunity to be able to play in one of the best leagues in Europe,” Frimpong said in his move.
“I am looking forward to the Bundesliga and of course this particular club. Bayer 04 Leverkusen have been regularly in the Champions League and the Europa League.

“They showed their ambition on the European stage last year in the two games against Glasgow Rangers.
“I really like Bayer 04’s offensive, fast and technical style of play and I hope to be able to help the team soon.”
Frimpong was linked to AS Roma before deciding to join Leverkusen, which currently ranks third in the German Bundesliga table.
“At Jeremie Frimpong, we have been able to sign a player with great ease to develop and again this is a forward thinking transfer for Bayer 04. He is technically strong, incredibly fast and has the desire to go forward.” said the club’s sports director. Simon Rolfes added.
“Over the last year and a half, Jeremie has proven his worth at an absolutely superior club in the physically challenging Scottish league and in European competition.
“That important experience at Celtic, but especially his soccer skills, make him a very attractive young player.”
Frimpong is eligible to represent Ghana, England and the Netherlands at the senior international level.
Born in the Netherlands to a Ghanaian mother, the right-back moved to England at the age of seven.
After playing for the Dutch at the U19 level, he graduated to represent the team at the U20 level.
