In the transfer market rumor mill, he was mentioned by six Bundesliga clubs, but Sepp van den Berg (22) now seems to be heading back to the Premier League. While Mainz 05, the center-back’s previous loan club, was hoping for a return, Bayer Leverkusen is the last realistic alternative in Germany. A report from “Sky Sports” in England suggests that Brentford FC will be awarded the contract – at a price that also calls further interest from Leverkusen into question.

Recently, Liverpool FC’s increased minimum demand of more than 20 million for its player made the rounds. According to “Kicker”, VfL Wolfsburg, for example, then withdrew from the race for van den Berg. The price that Brentford is willing to pay is now estimated at the equivalent of just under 30 million euros. This does not include possible bonuses of more than 7 million.

That would be the amount that Leverkusen would also have to pay. But for that to happen, the Werkself would first have to lose another player from the center of defense. Edmond Tapsoba (25) and Odilon Kossounou (23) are candidates who have at least aroused great interest from other clubs. In the case of Jonathan Tah (28), a recent transfer drama between Bayer and FC Bayern ended with the national player probably not going to Munich. Now a contract extension is even on the table.
Tah has “started to think differently,” writes “Kicker” in its Thursday edition. His contract with the German champions runs until 2025, and Leverkusen will soon make him a new offer for an extension, according to information from “Bild.”
The most likely departure from Leverkusen is currently Kossounou. A proposal from Crystal Palace for a loan with a subsequent obligation to buy is being discussed. According to Sky information, Bayer coach Xabi Alonso is said to have spoken personally with van den Berg as a possible successor, but a package of the reported 25 million euros plus bonuses and a resale share of 18 percent would be too expensive for Leverkusen. Brentford would probably be willing.
