Bayer Leverkusen’s supporters couldn’t contain themselves.
After Florian Wirtz’s 5–0 goal, the supporters stormed the pitch and the match was called off prematurely.
Undefeated Bayer Leverkusen are German league champions for the first time ever.
It was more a matter of when and not if.
Now it is clear that Bayer Leverkusen will take home the Bundesliga for the first time in the club’s history.
This after a 5-0 defeat at home against Werder Bremen.
– It is indescribable. It has not yet sunk in what I have done, says Florian Wirtz according to AFP.
“Total chaos”
And it was noticeable that the supporters were thirsty for a title. When Florian Wirtz made it 4-0 in the 83rd minute, they couldn’t hold on.

Several supporters made their way onto the pitch to hug several of the players and Wirtz & Co had to do what they could to get the supporters to return to the stands.
– This is total chaos. They are so excited to celebrate with their team, says Viaplay’s expert Saga Fredriksson in the broadcast.
Wirtz scored his third goal to make it 5-0 in the 90th minute and the fans couldn’t be held back. The arena was filled and the referee decided to call off the match.
“Neverkusen” gone
The less flattering nickname “Neverkusen” is now as if blown away and the title means that Bayern Munich’s streak of eleven straight league titles is broken.
Leverkusen, who have already finished second in the league five times, have been dominant throughout the season. The Xabi Alonso-led team has not lost a game either in league play or away in Europe.
