The multinational Bayer announced its adherence to the National Agreement for the Human Right to Water and Sustainability promoted by the Mexican federal government, the company announced in a statement.
Specifically, Bayer transferred to the National Water Commission (Conagua) the use and exploitation of 2 million m³ of the concessions of its production sites.
“With this accession, Bayer reaffirms its commitment to leading with concrete actions that benefit communities and protect the environment, ensuring a positive impact that transcends generations,” he said in the document.
In addition, the company recalled the actions it has taken to optimize water in recent years. In this sense, it recorded water savings of 87 million m³ since last year; For example, he said, in the north of the country the number of irrigations could be reduced from 6 to 4, which led to saving 78.16 million m³ of water.
Additionally, thanks to drip and sprinkling irrigation systems, the use of liquid was reduced by 1.68 million m³; while the use of algorithms and big data has allowed a reduction in water use by 3.1 million m³.
“At Bayer, ensuring access to water is a shared responsibility and imperative for a sustainable future. We have managed to transform agricultural practices and save millions of cubic meters of water, but this is just the beginning.
