Asisat Oshoala’s penalty was all Bay FC needed to earn a 1-0 win against host Seattle Reign on Sunday.

The victory put Bay FC (9-12-1, 28 points) above the playoff line.

Seattle (5-12-5, 20 points) lost its third straight game, falling eight points behind Bay FC.

Oshoala gave Bay FC a 1-0 lead in the 27th minute. The Nigerian forward tricked goalkeeper Claudia Dickey as she approached the ball and put it in on the left side as Dickey moved to the right.

The visitors earned the penalty when Oshoala was brought down inside the area by defender Phoebe McClernon.

Bay FC controlled the ball for most of the first half, outscoring Seattle 8-5, including six shots on goal to just one for the hosts.

The Reign began to find more opportunities as the first half progressed, but were unable to score. In the 28th minute, Ji So-Yun’s shot towards the far post from the left of the area went wide. Six minutes later, Quinn shot from outside the area and the ball went over the goal.

The home team continued to push to equalize the score at the beginning of the second half, but were unable to do so. Veronica Latsko sent a cross into the box for Tziarra King, who was on the other side. The ball hit the foot of Bay defender Caprice Dydasco and deflected toward King, who touched it in the air, but sent it straight into the arms of goalkeeper Katelyn Rowland.
