Bawaslu Responds to Allegations of Inflated Votes in 2024 Indonesia DPR RI Election

Election Supervisory Body (Bawaslu) RI responded to allegations of inflating PSI’s vote tally. Bawaslu admitted that it had carried out verification regarding this allegation.

“There are some things that we verified that were not proven. Then we verified them in the field, for example in Cilegon, they were resolved, they were on social media, right? There were also those in Central Java that were completed in stages, they were resolved,” said the Chairman of the Republic of Indonesia Bawaslu, Rahmat Bagja, at the office. KPU, Central Jakarta, Monday (4/3/2024).

Bagja said that in some areas, the results of the c.hasil plano form are the same as the d.hasil form at the sub-district level. However, he said, there were still errors in reading the form to Sirekap.

“For Sukoharjo, Gatak sub-district, and Geneng sub-district, how many TPS? So the results of your friends’ reports are like that. That’s for Gatak. It’s the same for Cilegon too. So it’s not true,” he said.

Furthermore, Bagja said that the KPU had fixed the Optical Character Recognation (OCR) technology problem. It is known that the KPU revealed that the OCR used by Sirekap was not accurate in reading the c.Results form.

“There has been a repair, if the OCR problem is C Results, C Results of the conversion from images to numbers, if I’m not mistaken, that’s what he said. So yes, it has to be fixed, it’s already there, there’s maintenance for two to three days at the KPU,” he said.

Nevertheless, Bagja asked the KPU not to stop carrying out tiered recapitulations manually. Because, he said, the tiered recapitulation is a reference for vote counting.

“What we can’t do is stop manual recapitulation, that’s what can’t be stopped. As soon as it’s advanced, continue to implement it,” he said.

The KPU previously emphasized that there was no inflating of votes for PSI in the 2024 DPR RI legislative election. The KPU said that the increase in PSI votes on the election2024.kpu.go.id website was due to an error in the Recapitulation Information System (Sirekap).

“There was no vote bloat, what was there was an inaccuracy of the OCR (optical character recognition) technology in reading the C. Idham Holik to journalists, Monday (4/3).

Idham explained that from the start his party had implemented Bawaslu’s recommendations, that Sirekap needed to have data accuracy according to the C.Results model form. Idham said the data is currently in the process of being accurate.

“Once again, we convey that the official results of the election participants’ votes were based on a recapitulation carried out in stages,” he explained.
