Many came to be present at the opening of the new rescue station of the Bavarian Red Cross (BRK) in Ochsenfurt. After two years of planning and construction, the rescue station could now be handed over. At the opening ceremony, which was led by the managing director of the BRK district association in Würzburg, Oliver Pilz, district administrator and chairman of the BRK district association in Würzburg, Thomas Ebert, emphasized the good connection of the location.
The proximity to the Mainklinik also ensures that people in rural areas are offered security in terms of medical care. The new BRK rescue station is both a recognized teaching rescue station for rescue service specialist training for emergency paramedics and location for the training rooms for specialist training, broad training, family and senior work.
New rescue station is a place where knowledge can be passed on
The 521 square meter station offers, among other things, space for three garages, a vehicle wash hall, storage rooms, changing rooms, showers and several teaching rooms. An ambulance, an emergency doctor’s vehicle and an ambulance from the public rescue service are stationed in Ochsenfurt. The 16 full-time employees and their volunteer colleagues drive around 4,500 operations per year in the southern district of Würzburg, as well as in the neighboring districts of Kitzingen, Neustadt/Aisch and Main-Tauber-Kreis.
At the opening, the member of parliament and Vice President of the BRK, Andreas Krahl, spoke of the new rescue station as a place where friendships are made and a wealth of experience, knowledge and competence can be passed on. “Bavaria can be proud of a good rescue network, which includes not only the rescue service, but also the armed forces, the police and the volunteer fire brigade,” explained Sandro Kirchner, member of the state parliament and state secretary in the Bavarian State Ministry of the Interior, for sport and integration.
Investor ensured speedy construction of the new rescue station
Mayor Peter Juks gave a brief review of the presence of the BRK in Ochsenfurt. He recalled that this had existed in the city since 1870 and even today the Red Cross in Ochsenfurt is not only anchored in the rescue service, but also in the youth center and day care. At the opening, Christine Haupt-Kreutzer, Chairwoman of the Würzburg rescue service and fire brigade alerting association, spoke about the shortage of skilled workers, how to ensure emergency medical services and the good cooperation between all aid organizations for the benefit of the people.
The speakers expressed special thanks to investor Mevlan Mutlu and his family. They tackled the project despite the pandemic, massive price increases and delivery problems and ensured that it was completed in a timely manner. The planning was submitted in February 2021 and the building permit was issued on October 7, 2021. Construction began on January 10, 2022. Mutlu, in turn, praised the good cooperation with the BRK and said: “Trust is important in life and the BRK trusted us.”
At the end of the inauguration ceremony, the new rescue station was blessed by the deacon and head of emergency pastoral care in the Diocese of Würzburg, Ulrich Wagenhäuser and Pastor Johannes Müller. Both clergymen pointed out that actually it is not buildings that are blessed, but the people in them.
