Sander’s team-mate Romed Baumann, who had surprisingly won silver in the Super-G, crashed at the finish and rushed under the protective barrier.

In the terrifying-looking fall, he suffered bloody cuts on his nose and lip as well as a concussion. This was announced by the German Ski Association (DSV) on Sunday afternoon after an examination in the Cortina d’Ampezzo hospital.

Baumann is supposed to start his journey home on Monday after a night in the team hotel.

The Frenchman Maxence Muzaton escaped a catastrophic fall with a spectacular rescue operation – his colleague Florian Schieder from Italy was possibly more seriously injured in his crash.

Baumann suffers bleeding facial injuries

Baumann, as the 13th starter, caused an early moment of shock from a German perspective. (Alpine skiing: racing calendar for the 2020/21 season)

The vice world champion in Super-G fell in the finish area and crashed almost unchecked into the border. Due to the speed, the 35-year-old slipped under the air-cushioned gangway.

After anxious moments he was freed by helpers and was able to leave the target in an upright gait. However, blood flowed through cuts on the nose and lip.

Muzaton with breathtaking maneuvers

Muzaton had recently avoided a heavy fall on the slopes. (World Cup stands in alpine skiing)

When he tilted before jumping at a speed of 100 km / h, the Frenchman twisted his knee and was lifted.

But he managed to land a 180-degree turn in a spectacular manner and was able to brake in a controlled manner while reversing.

Italian Schieder calls out for a fall

The Italian Schieder, on the other hand, was worse off. The 25-year-old lost his balance after a few hard hits on the slope against his skis and was lifted.

In the fall, his boards twisted several times and continued the blows to the knee. During this, Schieder was screaming loudly, even after the long slide was finally over, one could hear loud calls from the Italian.

After the helpers arrived, he could at least get up again.
