Latvian pilot Jānis Baumanis will not take part in the first two stages of the World Rallycross Championship this weekend.

The World Championship 2020 season will start this weekend with two stages on the Heljes track in Sweden.

“Unfortunately, I will not be competing in Heljes this weekend. I will be replaced by Matthias Ekström. I wish good luck to the KYB Team JC in the first two stages of the season, ”Baumanis writes in a statement.

In turn, the motor sports portal “F1.lv” reports that Baumanis’ participation in the following stages is under question. The Covid-19 pandemic affected Baumanis’ career as a motorist.

“Therefore, I will not have the opportunity to spend the full season of the World Rallycross Championship. Of course, I do not feel in my skin and have very strange feelings, because there will be no opportunity to start in the Swedish stage. However, it must be taken into account that this pandemic has caused problems in the planning processes of my sponsors, because it is currently very difficult to forecast ahead, ”the portal quotes Baumanis.

One week later, two more stages will take place in Finland, but on September 19 and 20, two stages will take place in Latvia. Next, sections are planned in Belgium, Portugal, Spain and Germany.

At the end of March, Baumanis joined the KYB Team JC ranks. Initially, the pilots were already completed for the 2020 season, but KYB Team JC was allowed to start in the championship after the rest of the team and the International Automobile Federation (SON).

Last season, Baumanis finished in the top three in Norway and Canada, but he was sixth overall. The Latvian was among the six finalists in five stages.

For the previous three seasons, Baumanis represented the STARD team, but before that he rode in the “Austria” team for one year.

Baumanis is the 2015 European Champion and the 2014 bronze medalist in the “Super 1600” class. In 2016, he spent the first full season of the SuperCar planet championship.
