Bauke Mollema throws himself between time trial toppers: “I would like to show the red-white-blue”
Bauke Mollema completed a creditable time trial in the Tour de France 2022 on Saturday afternoon. The 35-year-old Trek-Segafredo rider was allowed to ride the individual chrono to Rocamadour in his Dutch jersey. He only had to pass Wout van Aert, Jonas Vingegaard, Tadej Pogačar, Geraint Thomas and Filippo Ganna. “I can’t complain,” he says CyclingFlash.
It was also his second time trial in which he acted as a new-fangled Dutch champion in red-white-blue. “That does give morality, yes. I’d like to show my suit. Maybe I’ll only drive five times in red-white-blue. Or I have to manage to defend my title. But it has been going well all year, I really get extra moral from that to put in a good performance.”
Mollema also indicated that he would like to ride the World Time Trial Championships. After Sunday’s final stage, he will ride a number of criteriums, before taking part in the Clásica San Sebastián next Saturday. In the Spanish one-day classic, he was already second twice, third once and in 2016 he even won.
