The TRUCK will offer a environmentally friendly alternative for the transport of goods in the Rhine-Ruhr area. This step underlines BAUHAUS its commitment to sustainability and climate protection, which begins with the logistics and transport of the goods.

Sustainable innovation on wheels: The hydrogen truck

The newly commissioned truck with a 190 kW fuel cellwhich with hydrogen does not emit any greenhouse gases during the journey. With a range of around 400 kilometers, the truck offers an environmentally friendly alternative for transporting goods in the Rhine-Ruhr region. The battery output of 661 V / 73.2 kWh supports the powerful motor with 350 kW / 3,400 Nm torque to move a payload of up to twelve tons.

The trailer coupled to this innovative truck has an additional payload of eight tonnes. With 38 parking spaces, double-deck equipment and the option of unloading long goods from the side, the truck is specially designed for the needs of BAUHAUS. It offers an optimal solution for transporting non-stackable Euro pallets and long goods, which are often required in the specialist centres.

The truck is owned by the renowned transport service provider Nolden Logistics from Kerpen and is used on behalf of BAUHAUS. This partnership enables both companies to gain valuable experience in dealing with fuel cell technology under real conditions – an important prerequisite for the future expansion of this environmentally friendly transport method.

Why hydrogen?

BAUHAUS transports a large number of products between its warehouses and specialist centers throughout Germany every day. The use of the hydrogen truck, which achieves an impressive range given the current state of technology, is a significant step towards minimizing the company’s ecological footprint in the future.

The truck’s fuel cell generates electricity through an electrochemical process that uses hydrogen and oxygen. The resulting electrical energy drives the vehicle’s electric motors – without combustion and without harmful emissions. The only byproduct that is created during the transport of goods is harmless water vapor, which is released into the environment. With a range of up to 400 kilometers per tank, the hydrogen truck sets new standards in low-emission logistics from BAUHAUS.

Environmental and climate protection are of great importance at BAUHAUS

“The topics sustainability and environmental protection are a priority for us at BAUHAUS. central concern“, explains Torsten Winter, Head of Overall Logistics at BAUHAUS. “We promote sustainability across all business areas at BAUHAUS, including logistics of course. We are delighted to be starting this project and to be able to gather practical experience and transport data with fuel cell trucks at an early stage.”
