Bauer ties LMB strikeout record

Mexico City. There were six innings without a hit or a run with 14 strikeouts that the starter Trevor Bauer threw, who also tied a record of the Mexican Baseball League (LMB), and that work helped the Red Devils of Mexico (8-1) win 4-0 to the Bravos de León (3-6), to win the series that took place at the Alfredo Harp Helú Stadium.

In his second outing of the campaign, Trevor Bauer had a historic day not only for achieving double zero in six innings but also because he retired nine consecutive batters by strikeout, thus tying the LMB record, joining his name to that of José Ramón López (Monterrey in 1964) and Gary Williams (Tampico in 1979).

The right-hander left the game with six innings of work in which he threw without a hit or run, with only one walk and 14 strikeouts. In total he made 87 pitches at the plate, 60 of which were in the strike zone. With that work, he was the winning pitcher of the match, now going 1-0 with an ERA of 2.79.

After Bauer, Jeurys Familia came in relief, who made his debut with the team by pitching an inning in which he got a hit, while Daniel Missaki came to throw the final two innings with 29 pitches, hanging a couple of zeros, with only one hit. allowed and three strikeouts.

On offense, Diablos scored once in the second round, once in the fifth and twice in the sixth, to complete the four runs with which they reached eight victories. José Marmolejos finished the day with two RBIs, while Franklin Barreto scored twice, on a 3-2 afternoon with a walk. Moisés Gutiérrez went 1-for-3 with a buzzer-beater and an RBI.

The defeated pitcher was Braves starter Fernando Lozano, who pitched 4.1 innings, with six hits, two runs, two walks and five chocolates.

After this game, the Red Devils of Mexico will have a day off this Monday to begin a three-game series on Tuesday in Campeche against the Pirates, while on the weekend (Saturday, April 27 to Monday, April 29) they will be at the Stadium Centennial where they will play against the Olmecas of Tabasco.
