Bauer is named Pitcher of the Year in the Mexican Baseball League

Mexico City, The American Trevor Bauer, right-handed pitcher for the Red Devils of Mexico, was named Pitcher of the Year in the Mexican Baseball League on Friday after the 2024 season.

In a vote carried out by the electoral committee, Bauer swept. He got 94 votes to beat Zac Grotz (9), David Reyes (7), Matt Dermody (6), Robert Stock (2) and Tyler Viza (1).

Bauer, 33, finished the regular season with a 10-0 record and a 2.48 ERA in 14 starts and helped the Red Devils win the summer baseball circuit title.

In addition, he was the strikeout leader with 120 in 83 and a third innings for an average of 1.44 for each inning pitched. Nineteen of those strikeouts came on June 21 against the Guerreros de Oaxaca to set a record for a nine-inning game, surpassing the 18 shared by three pitchers.

Bauer also tied a Mexican League record by striking out nine consecutive strikeouts on April 21 against the Bravos de León. He shares that record with José Ramón López, from Sultanes de Monterrey in 1964; and with Gary Williams, from Tampico in 1979.

The American arrived on Mexican soil with a contract for only five games, but eventually agreed to stay the entire season.

Bauer has been trying to revive his Major League career after serving a 194-game suspension for violating Major League Baseball’s policy on domestic violence, sexual assault and child abuse. He was never arrested or formally charged.

The pitcher was released by the Los Angeles Dodgers in January 2023. He pitched last year with the Yokohama DeNA BayStars of Japan’s Pacific League.
