Comedian Martijn Koning held a ‘roast’ at Jinek, making jokes about Baudet’s fiancée’s Jewish descent, among other things. The FVD leader left the broadcast prematurely.
EenVandaag will hold a debate on Monday with the party leaders of the six largest parties. The leaders of the smaller parties, including Baudet, had been invited for an interview in the broadcast in the previous days, but he is now not doing that.
A spokesman for the party says that after the broadcast of Jinek, Baudet no longer needs “these kinds of programs”, EenVandaag reports. Baudet’s actions also have consequences for his safety, the spokesman argues.
Disappointing
Editor-in-chief René van Brakel finds the cancellation extremely disappointing and sad. He notes that “EenVandaag is a current affairs program, not a talk show. Nor is there a column by a comedian or other politician with whom he has to debate. ”
“With the EenVandaag Opinion panel we have conducted a survey among voters and we indicate how his supporters, and all voters, think about the positions of Forum for Democracy and the actions of Thierry Baudet.”
Baudet is not the only party leader to fail an interview in the campaign. Both PVV leader Geert Wilders and THINK leader Farid Azarkan canceled a scheduled interview at Nieuwsuur. Wilders said he was too busy preparing for a debate, Azarkan said he was exhausted.
