Battles near Bakhmut: Intense Fighting on Donbas Front

The battles near the symbolically important city of Bakhmut remain among the bloodiest on the entire 400 km long Donbas front.

Over the weekend, the occupying forces intensified their efforts to regain the lost positions – on the southern flank of the city, but the artillerymen of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, who support the infantry on this flank of the front, told TV3 News that despite the intense attacks, the Ukrainians managed to repel them.

Currently, the main battles are taking place on the strategically important highway T0513 Bakhmut – Horlivka.

“In the last 24 hours, the enemy tried to attack 30 times in the direction of Bakhmut,” says Oleg Kalashnikov, a soldier of the 26th Artillery Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

“The heaviest battles take place near Kliščijivka, Andrijivka. The enemy tries to regain the lost positions, but fails. We have made some progress towards the railway, certain sections towards Horlivka are under our control. The main battles are currently taking place behind the railway, near the road Bakhmut – Horlivka.”

The situation is dire, the Russians are constantly replacing the lost fighters with new reserves and are constantly throwing cannon fodder on the battlefield. At the same time, the situation at the front is already aggravated by the weather – it makes it difficult for both the movement of military equipment and reconnaissance.

“Winter is approaching, the rainy season, when there will be mud everywhere, the movement of equipment will become significantly more difficult. Also, the fact that the leaves have fallen on the trees makes it more difficult to disguise,” says the defender of Ukraine.

The soldiers here are also preparing for a hard winter – and they say that it will be extremely difficult for civilians as well.

“Frontline cities are shelled every day. As we know. terrorist country Russia is also at war with our civilians,” says Oleg. “We expect that when the frost sets in, they’ll start massively hitting critical infrastructure.”

“Right now they are building up their strength to launch massive strikes to break our people when the winter conditions are severe. Last year proved that it wouldn’t work.”

At the same time, Russian troops are continuing a weeks-long effort to encircle Avdiyivka, a Ukrainian stronghold south of Bakhmut that has been one of the Russians’ main targets since the start of the war.

Avdijivka is considered the gateway to the eastern part of the Donetsk region, which is under Kyiv’s control. Fortunately, the attacks are unsuccessful – the Russians continue to lose a lot of equipment and human resources here.

General Oleksandr Tarnavskyi, who commands Ukrainian troops fighting in and around Avdiyivka, said that unable to accept the setbacks, the Russians were stepping up airstrikes on the city, particularly with guided bombs.
