Battle of Kyiv – Has appointed Kyiv general:

10 days into the invasion of Ukraine, Russian forces have still failed to take control of the capital Kyiv.

The Ukrainians have shown an enormous willingness to defend the city, and, as Dagbladet wrote on Saturday, are now holding military experts the outcome open in the battle of Kyiv

Earlier this week, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky took further action in defending the important capital.

In a video statement Tuesday this week, the president appointed an experienced general to head of the military administration in Kyiv, Ukrainian reports Interfax.

LEADER OF THE DEFENSE OF KYIV: General Mykola Zhyrnov.

General appointed

– The defense of the capital comes first. Therefore, I decided to appoint a professional military chief of the Kyiv military administration to guarantee the defense of the city and to block the enemy’s approaches to our capital, so that the people of Kyiv have everything they need, said Zelenskyj according to Politico and added.

– The head of the military administration will be General Mykola Zhyrnov.

Zelensky points out that Zhyrnov was central to the military operations of the armed forces in Ukraine in 2014-2015.

In recent years, the general has played a prominent role as a state expert on national security in Ukraine.

– It is another smart move to appoint an experienced leader with insight into city war, because it is an extremely complicated task to defend a city with three million inhabitants, says Colonel Terje Bruøygard to Dagbladet.

– In line with reason

As commander of Norway’s Iraq force from 2017 to 2018, he has experience with civil war.

– President Zelenskyj has been given hero status, has the ability to gather the people and create faith that they can defend themselves, but does not have military expertise. Everything must be sewn together in one big plan, and the president wisely leaves this to professional military expertise. It is completely in line with common sense and recognized understanding of military operations, says Bruøygard.

The military expert describes the invasion of Ukraine as “completely cruel” and “incomprehensible”, and is impressed by the strength the Ukrainians show.

– All kudos to the Ukrainian people. I do not think such a will can be broken.

Bruøygard does not mean by this that Russia can not succeed in crushing Ukraine militarily.

Russia can manage to put in a puppet government, but must stand in the country with far greater forces than today, if they are to keep Ukraine under control. Russia probably does not have those resources today, so the outcome is not good to predict. There is no good way out for Putin.

In his video speech on Tuesday, President Zelensky emphasized that Vitaly Klitschko will remain mayor of Kyiv, even though General Zhyrnov has been appointed head of Kyiv’s defense.

They must work together, and the mayor has his own responsibilities.
