The Municipality of Battipaglia has officially declared the forfeiture of the concession for the design, construction and management of the Integrated Modal Interchange Center for the Transport of People, known as Più Europa. The decision, as announced by the French mayor during a press conference, was taken with a Management Determination of the Technical Sector and establishes the termination of the Agreement stipulated in 2012 with the company Atene Grandi Progetti following significant shortcomings in the requirements and serious breaches in contract management.
The reasons
The concession, which saw the collaboration of the Technical, Legal and Financial Sectors of the Municipality, was declared lapsed due to the undue modification of the contracting structure and the lack of diligence in the management of the project. In particular, the 2018 anti-mafia ban marked the beginning of a slowdown phase, which prevented the concessionaire from carrying out the necessary investments. Within 30 days of the expiration of the concession, the Municipality will clean and secure the platform areas, removing waste and protecting the area. Within a year, as underlined by mayor“municipal resources will be invested to complete the pedestrian overpass, a strategic connection between the two urban areas divided by the railway, particularly relevant for access to the INPS offices”.
The objectives
The municipal administration, supported by constant discussions with RFI, the Campania Region and the Ministry of Infrastructure, has started a new program to relaunch the PiA project as a center of regional importance for intermodal transport. Thanks to the investments of PNRR and the inclusion of Battipaglia in the Battipaglia-Romagnano high-speed corridor, the Municipality plans to transform the city into a crucial hub for integrated road/rail/air transport, promoting interconnection with the Salerno-Amalfi Coast Airport and improving the accessibility to the high-speed network.
