The Batman movie only came out earlier this month, but Warner Bros. has already begun posting deleted scenes from the film, including a five-minute video featuring Barry Keoghan as the Joker. In the video, Batman and the Joker discuss the Riddler’s motives and hint that they had some history prior to the events of the film.
Some viewers noticed a small hidden detail in the clip. It’s about a staple. As Reddit user Carlisl3minigaming noted on The Batman subreddit, when Batman hands the folder to the Joker, it has a paperclip that holds everything together. When the Joker hands the folder back, the paperclip is missing and the files fall apart.
It’s an incredibly small detail, but in a movie as heavy as Batman, it’s almost certainly intentional. The Joker is implied to have taken paper clips, which are often used in films as a way to pick locks. Some have taken this as a demonstration of how inexperienced this version of Batman is, which makes sense since it’s a recurring theme in the film.
While this is an interesting find, it is unlikely to be of any significance in the future. Of course, there is a possibility that this is just a production error and that fans are expecting too much from the few shots from the deleted scene. But on the other hand, “Batman” is a very detailed movie, and the scene with one of the biggest villains of all time was undeniably well thought out.
The film will be released on HBO Max on April 19, and on cable HBO on April 23.
