The Batanecas achieved their second triumph in the Mayo Women’s Basketball League by beating the Santa Ana team 68-37 in the Tigo Sports Cup Apertura Tournament. The Vicentine team went out to the Tacón Court ready to dominate the rival, and the national Niky Orantes was in charge of opening the scoring four seconds from the start with a double shot. Orantes kept her streak going and hit three more doubles and two triples with which they won the period 24-8.
Eight seconds passed in the second quarter and Orantes was in charge of surprising the Santanecas with a spectacular three-point shot with which they continued the dominance. Hard and team work was what the Vincentians demonstrated, as they scored 14 more points and finished 17-7, with a wide advantage on aggregate of 41-15.
In the third quarter, Bataneca Rachel Contreras excelled by scoring ten more points that helped the San Vicente quintet increase the lead over Santa Ana and finish 16-8, 57-23 overall.
Santa Ana attacked just nine seconds into the fourth period with a three-pointer from Carla Linares, a contribution that gave confidence to the Western quintet that scored 14 points, while Batanecas responded with 11, but it was not enough to beat the locals because the overall finished 68-37.
Batencas’ best scorers were Orantes with 23 points, followed by Rachel Contreras with 22 and Mario Flores with 6; for Santa Ana, the top scorers were Isabella Herrera with 11; Abigail Galán and Renata Sandoval with six units each.
The exciting LMBF duels continue tomorrow with the matches between LMMR vs Batanecas at 5:30 pm, at the David Vega Gymnasium and Salvadoreñas faces Santa Tecla at the Inclusive Sports City at 6:00 pm
