Batam City Government Raises Health Awareness with New Antigen Immunization and IVA Screening

Batam (ANTARA) – The Batam City Government, Riau Islands, is socializing new antigen immunization and Acetic Acid Visual Inspection (IVA) screening to the public to increase awareness of health.

Batam City Regional Secretary Jefridin Hamid in Batam, Saturday, said that outreach activities also aim to carry out early detection and monitoring of risk factors for non-communicable diseases (PTM), including smoking, unhealthy eating patterns, lack of physical activity, obesity, stress, consumption of alcoholic drinks, hypertension, hyperglycemia, hypercholesterolemia.

He said that PTM screening is also to follow up early on risk factors found through health counseling and immediately refer them to health service facilities such as community health centers or hospitals.

“Currently in Batam City there is an intensive campaign for the Healthy Community Movement (Germas). “As a form of the Mayor of Batam’s commitment, 37 of the 64 sub-districts have declared Germas Villages,” said Jefridin.

Healthy living, he said, must start with yourself and your family. Hopefully, by participating in this socialization, Posyandu cadres can provide information regarding new antigen immunization and double immunization to the public

He further explained that VIA screening is a simple way to detect cervical cancer as early as possible.

Regarding the budget for health, Jefridin said that he had allocated 10 percent of the Batam City APBD.

However, this budget is not adequate, considering the very rapid population growth of Batam City.

“Population growth in Batam City is not only due to the birth rate but also due to the high rate of migration to Batam City,” he said.

DWP Advisor to the Ministry of Health, Ida Rachmawati Sadikin, explained that the Ministry of Health introduced a new type of antigen which was added to the national immunization program which is currently being implemented by the government.

The four types of vaccines are the Conjugated Pneumococcal vaccine (PCV) to prevent pneumonia (lung inflammation), the Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) vaccine to prevent cervical cancer, the Rotavirus vaccine (RV) to prevent severe diarrhea, and the Inactivated Poliovirus Vaccine (IPV) vaccine. second dose to strengthen protection from polio.

Health is the most valuable asset. We must be responsible for maintaining this health for ourselves and our families. Posyandu cadres as health heroes and frontliners are expected to be able to convey health information to the public,” said Ida.*
