Batam and Bintan power cuts for 12 hours, here is the explanation of PLN

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) opened his voice regarding the power outage which lasted 12 hours in Batam and Bintan areas. This is due to bad weather that occurred on New Year’s Eve in 2023.

Despite having been interrupted, after 12 hours of blackout, PLN has returned to restoring electricity to more than 500,000 customers in the areas of Batam and Bintan.

“All PLN personnel are on standby and are immediately moving quickly to normalize and repair infrastructure that has been disrupted due to extreme weather conditions in Batam and Bintan,” PT PLN (Persero) Chief Director Darmawan Prasodjo explained to CNBC IndonesiaSunday (1/1/2023).

For this reason, PLN continues to coordinate with the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) to monitor the potential for extreme weather in the form of heavy rain accompanied by lightning and high winds in Indonesia in the coming days.

Also, to anticipate power outages, during the Nataru period, from 19 December 2022 to 4 January 2023, the PLN deployed 78,000 people on standby scattered across Indonesia, so that in the event of a disruption it can be resolved immediately. Besides that, PLN has also prepared 3,000 reserve posts and 3,110 support equipment in all units.

Not only in Batam and Bintan, extreme weather also affected various locations in Indonesia on New Year’s Eve, one of which was Semarang. Heavy rains flooded Semarang, causing flooding in several places.

“Heavy rains were observed in Semarang, causing flooding in several areas. The PLN immediately moved quickly to secure as many as 445 distribution substations to ensure public safety,” Darmawan said.

For this Darmawan has launched an appeal to the population to be cautious in managing the domestic electricity grid. In particular, when the floods hit, the community needed to shut off the electricity to the MCB immediately.

“After that, immediately contact PLN via PLN Mobile to request the temporary power outage. PLN officers will also patrol the flood-affected areas to ensure electricity supply,” Darmawan said.
