Bass singer Mimi Parker is dead | The standard

Mimi Parker, singer and drummer of the band Low, has died. Her husband and colleague Alan Sparhawk announced it on social media on Sunday. Parker was 55 and suffered from ovarian cancer.

She founded Low with Sparhawk and bassist John Nichols in Minnesota in the early 1990s. Loud grunge music was ubiquitous at the time, but Low stood out with subdued rock songs. Their debut album I could live in hope eventually made it onto Pitchfork’s list of best albums of the 90s.

Low has released a total of thirteen albums. They still went on tour, but their scheduled concerts in Germany and the UK, among others, were canceled due to Parker’s disease.
