After 18 years of presenting the movie “Harem Karim”, the artist Basma returned with her memories, accompanied by the famous radio personality “Dina Mandour”, which she presented in 2005. *After 18 years, you return to the same character, even if the events were different. How did you feel when he was offered to you?
I was very excited to repeat the experience again, but I was a little afraid at first to go through it, especially with the absence of many of the heroes. When I met the director Ali Idris and the writer Zainab Aziz, I was certain that this part had an independent dramatic line, different from being merely a continuation of the success of the first part. , So that the audience who did not see the first part of the work would not feel that they had missed anything, so I agreed, in addition to my great love for my colleagues in the work.
*What is the difference presented by the second part from your point of view?
It presents completely different and important topics, and is not a continuation of the first part. In addition to the new generation joining the film, it places it in another place. They have great positive energy that makes them give their best. The audience loved the first part, so they were eagerly awaiting the second part, especially since the film “Harem Karim” is one of the most successful films that we have presented during the past twenty years, and presenting a second part to it is a good and wonderful thing, and a vision to know what the events led to.. In addition, the second part has tools and techniques that exceed the first part, which is what I noticed in the audience’s reactions. Therefore, I expected it to be a success beyond the first part.
*What about the differences in Dina Mandour’s personality?
Although I present the same character that I presented in the first part of the film, the difference lies in the change in age, time, and events. Filming the second part after 18 years, of course, the viewer will find a change in our characters because thinking has changed. I also worked hard in preparing for her, as she is a character full of life and future. On the world. The character of Dina Mandour is one of the characters that I loved very much, and therefore I would have loved to know what happened to her after all that time had passed, and the second of those reasons was my desire to cooperate for the third time with the creative director, Ali Idris.
*Who helped you draw the details of Dina’s character after all this change?
In fact, stylist Saeed Ramzi was the one who helped me draw the details of my character in the film. I consider him a brother to me, and I am happy with this cooperation, because he drew each character in the film in a different and distinctive way.
How was the filming behind the scenes?
We were not in a state of “joking” all the time. There are moments in which we laugh, and unfortunately those moments are shown to the audience, but the true extent of the effort is not shown to the people. We were about 200 people working with all our might to make the work appear the way you see it. There are sometimes a number of problems, such as We may have problems in our personal lives, but this is the nature of our profession, but inside the scenes of this work, I felt a lot of familiarity and friendliness between me and the film team. I can consider it one of the best scenes I have experienced in recent times, as it included many joyful moments full of songs.
*This part witnessed the absence of a number of stars.. What do you think?
This is the year of life. There are artists who have left life and others who will not have a share in the work, but there is also a good generation that will emerge and perhaps its star will shine in this part, so may God have mercy on those who left us, and we cherish every new guest in the film.
*How did you find the attack on the daughter of the late artist Talaat Zakaria for her rejection of the idea of presenting a second part of the film after her father’s passing?
The daughter of the late artist was confused about the matter, and she thought that there was a new artist who would replace her father, but the new story that we presented in “Awlad Harem Karim” does not include a continuation of the role of Talaat Zakaria. In the film, we are discussing our lives 18 years after the events of the first part. Certainly there are characters. She left and other characters entered our lives because they are the norm of life.
*How did you find working with young people who are new to work?
The new generation that participated with us in the “Children of Harem Karim” tournament, I met them personally for the first time behind the scenes of this work. Tim Mustafa Qamar is a colleague in the acting workshops and we have previously participated together in more than one workshop. As for Rana Rais, we have previously participated in filming “History,” which will be released. It was shown during a new dramatic work. As for the artist Youssef Omar, we may have met once before, but it is the first time we stand together in a dramatic work.
*What do you have in common with Dina Mandour?
There is no dramatic character that I played in my artistic career that was not taken from me. All of my roles were absorbed from my true personality. On the other hand, I formed a large part of my personality in life through the dramatic roles that I presented during my career.
*What about what’s new?
I resumed filming “Belly of the Whale”, which continued for nearly a year, as we started it before last Ramadan to be shown during it, but that did not happen and it was postponed, in addition to my preparation for another new series, the details of which I will announce soon.
