PALERMO. The mayor of Palermo Roberto Lagalla and the education councilor Aristide Tamajo inaugurated in Zisa neighborhood il outdoor sports field of the Colozza school of via Imerapertaining toIc Colozza Bonfiglio.
The complex hosts approximately four hundred pupils from nursery and primary schools, and from today it will be able to count on a new structure dedicated to physical activity, composed of a multipurpose field of basketball e volleyballand from one athletics track.
The works, which also included the construction of a external lighting system and the arrangement of the entire surrounding areawere made in 150 days and financed with European funds – ERDF for a total amount of 330 thousand euros.
«As an Administration we have focused a lot, and the Department of Education is doing so carefully, on the redevelopment of school spaces, both the teaching ones and the sports and entertainment ones, as well as on the technical systems. Work continues throughout the city and with the completion of these we gain the satisfaction of being able to provide a better place for our children and teenagers. The educational moment is fundamental and the welcoming capacity and receptive quality of schools becomes equally important in the overall educational process of young people.” So declares the mayor of Palermo Roberto Lagalla.
«This morning (26 November) we cut the ribbon on a beautiful gym in the internal courtyard of the Colozza school, equipping the area with a lighting system which will allow, especially in the winter months, to keep it open and active even in the afternoon and evening hours . This is the fourth sports field that we inaugurate in a few monthsafter that of the Ic Giuliana Saladino at the Cep and the two facilities, one indoors and one outdoors, in the Di Vittorio complex of the Sperone district. Soon we will be happy to return a refurbished gym to the pupils of the Paulsen school. For us, sport continues to be in first place as a deterrent against school dropout.” Councilor Aristide Tamajo declared this on the sidelines of the inauguration.
Coordinating the festive morning, during which a delegation of students performed various performances within the camp, was the school principal Valeria Catalano, who declared: «In the first few days, as soon as I became manager, I saw children playing ball in the street and told them that I would build a sports field so that they could continue to play safely inside the school. They stared and asked me when it would happen. Today that dream is a reality, and we can tell children that we adults keep our promises. The game is the metaphor of life: holding out your hand to someone and knowing you will find it gives you hope and security. Building alliances, combining enthusiasm and the desire to achieve goals makes us strong: this is the meaning of a team! If children believe in themselves, if they have goals to pursue, perhaps we can truly give them a peaceful future because they will become confident and fulfilled adults. This is why in this neighborhood our sports field turns on the lights even when the sun goes down, because where there are dreams the darkness never comes».
The company that carried out the works was Rti ICPA SRL – COGECA SRL of Favara. The Rup was the architect Roberta Romeo, while the director of the works was the surveyor Marcello Balsamo who was also the designer of the work together with the engineers Maria Vita Seminara, Gaetano Russo and Giuseppe Pecoraro. The safety coordinator was Brigitta Sanfilippo.
